Bio
Martha Williams was born in a small in the Langkloof, Western Cape. Her Mother was an excellent cook and, after a fortuitous meeting with the owner of a Chinese Restaurant, Martha went to work as a Chef where her latent talent for cooking soon showed, and it was here that Liz McGrath discovered her. After five years at the Plettenburg as a griller, Martha was promoted to Breakfast Chef at the Cellars-Hohenort. Despite having to relocate, she accepted this post with much enthusiasm. She held this position for two years, before being promoted to Head Chef.
Before the Cape Malay Restaurant opened Martha studied under Cass Abrahams, the foremost expert on Cape Malay culture and cuisine, and this taught her the importance of blending the herbs and spices used in her cooking brilliance.
The Restaurant has been a huge success, proving very popular with both local and overseas guests, So much so that Martha was invited to present her culinary delights at both local and overseas events. Her greatest accolade was to present her Cape Malay Cooking at the Beautiful Hotel Renaissance, Amsterdam, as well as in Malaysia and Thai pay. This was the first time Martha had left South African shores and in her own words, although it was a wonderful experience, I was homesick for the Cape and the beautiful country we are blessed to live in.
Martha’s plans for the future are to continue in search of culinary excellence and to look forward to a delicious tomorrow.
