Chris Blanchard was most recently the Wine Director and Sommelier for REDD Restaurant, where he opened the Michelin starred restaurant located in the Napa Valley with chef Richard Reddington. San Francisco Magazine named Chris as the “Critic’s Choice Best Wine Director” in the August 2006 Restaurant Issue naming him as one of the “4 Stars” in the entire San Francisco Bay Area food scene. Forbes Magazine featured his wine list at REDD as one of the “Top Wine Lists in the World”. Food & Wine Magazine has also featured his wine pairings at REDD, and has profiled his career calling him a “Star Sommelier” in the April 2007 issue. He was named Master Sommelier in early 2008 after passing the nearly impossible service, theory and blind tasting sections, to become one of less than 150 Master Sommeliers in the world.

After a recording career in the late 80’s scoring a Top 20 hit in 1987 as the first solo white rapper “DJ Vitamix”, Chris had a humble start in the wine industry in 1990 selling Thunderbird, Night Train and Boones Farm brands to corner liquor stores on the tough streets of Oakland and East San Jose with the Gallo Sales Company. He worked his way up to become a salesman for Kendall Jackson Estates in San Francisco, moved up to regional manager with the Henry Wine Group in the late 90’s and moved to the supplier side with a job as sales manager for Far Niente Winery in Northern California. While working as California Sales Manager with Tony Soter’s Etude brand, he was also moonlighting as a sommelier at the prestigious Relais & Chateau Auberge du Soleil Resort in Rutherford, helping guests navigate the extensive Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence wine list. Chris currently serves as the Director of Wine Education for Chappellet Winery in St. Helena.

He has worked many years as moderator, sommelier and guest speaker at the Masters of Food & Wine Event at Pebble Beach, invited as guest sommelier at the Napa Wine Auction and Naples Wine Auction, as well as traveling the world teaching wine as a lecturer on the Celebrity Millenium Cruise Line. He recently returned from the Hotel des Paris in Monte Carlo after being selected to host the “Greatest Tasting of California Wines in France” serving rare wines for HSH Prince Albert and a meeting of top CEO’s for the Monaco Media Forum. He has created wine lists and developed wine and service training for the opening of Solage Resort in Calistoga, Redd in Yountville, Bardessono Resort in Yountville, El Dorado Kitchen in Sonoma, and Bay 13 in Portland, Oregon, including the wine and cocktail programs for the 18 national outlet Piatti Restaurants and Paragon Restaurants.
